The trend toward multicultural understanding has made an impact in Asian literature in the past decade. With the expanded interest in cultural perspectives has come an increase in literature specific to intercultural and familial relationships. Awareness of the universal threats and challenges to family are important because of common assumptions that traditional family models from Asia are automatically less adapted to the American setting than others (Collier 1993). Specially, the relationship between mother and daughter has always been considered as complex and compelling and the relationship between a mother born in another country and a daughter born in the United States has special interest in this day.
