Racism was not abolished with a simple law or act. It found a way to disguise itself in a white mask. Shortly, after this law had passed, an underground organization called the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) was formed. This was a secret United States political organization of Protestant white men who oppose people of other races. They punished not only “Black” people, but also the “Whites” who help to free them. This organization was vicious and cruel. They killed or crippled people just because of the color of their skin. Many people were lynched and many “Blacks” died. For example, in the story of “On Being White, Female, and Born in Bensonhurst”, “Three black men, walking casually through streets at night, were attacked by a group of whites. One was shot dead, mistaken, . . .” (Mariana De Marco Torgovnick 491). Racism can take many forms and disguises, such as the Ku Klux Klan. It is not easy to change the habits of human beings with a simple action. The emotion of racism runs too deep.
